ABOUT US

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.                 Ephesians 1:3

Who We Are

We (Richard and Ruth) have been married since 1960. We have two sons and five grandsons, the youngest now in glory with his Lord. I ("Dick") was raised in rural Minnesota and settled in San Diego in 1959. I (Ruth) was born in Minneapolis and settled in San Diego in 1949. We have lived most of our married life in San Diego, and were privileged to parent five delightful foster girls for a brief time.

Professional History

I (Dick) worked briefly as a roustabout on the carnival circuit with a "three-eyed bull" sideshow. After graduation from Vocational High School in Minneapolis I worked as an electronics technician. Years later I became a U.S. Border Patrol agent, and still later a Brink's guard. On our 25th anniversary I joined Ruth at The Secretary and have managed the business ever since.

I have acted in stage productions and been involved in the entertainment industry as both a "little person" character actress and as a stand-in for children. I grew up "all over the U.S." promoting Curtiss Candy Company products (primarily Baby Ruth & Butterfinger bars) with my small parents. I went from secretary at SDSU's Bureau of Business & Economic Research and Boys & Girls Aid Society to stay-at-home mom. Soon The Secretary was born with a $75 typewriter and a ream of paper in our washroom-turned-office.

Together: The Secretary grew from typing term papers to serving entrepreneurs, business executives, graduate students, professors, and publishers. Our motto: Quality Beyond Words. We now publish a monthly fellowship newsletter with a children's section that includes puzzles of various kinds.

Why Bible Word Searches?

Background.  As a Sunday school teacher and superintendent I (Dick) used many science and other visuals to teach about God's love and His gift to us, our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. In the past, word searches became part of the curriculum for our foster children and grandchildren and for a Sunday school periodical. I now create a children's paper (see Fun Stuff) for a monthly fellowship newsletter we publish and distribute.

Purpose.  God's Word (the Bible) tells us it was written to teach us about the Lord Jesus, that it is profitable to us, sharper than a double-edged sword, and a blessing to those who read it (Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12; Revelation 1:3). We are supposed to study it because God's Word is truth (2 Timothy 2:15; John 17:17).

ABOUT OUR BOOKS.  Our Harvest House books, Bible Word Searches for Kids, Bible Memory Word Searches for Kids, and Amazing Bible Word Searches for Kids make learning about the Lord Jesus fun. You will see words about His peace, love, and the joy He gives us; about battles, plants, colors, foods... You will read stories about Daniel, Ruth, Samuel... And you will find hidden messages that sometimes explain what the words are all about. Parents, Sunday school teachers, VBS leaders: If your children need a verse to memorize, let them learn it as they work a Word Search. Our aim is to show forth the Lord Jesus as He is portrayed in Old Testament stories and New Testament examples.

OUR MISSION.  We seek to reinforce what is taught in the Scriptures. As you and your children read the materials on this site we pray that you will learn to know the Lord Jesus... He loves you, gave His life for you, is your Advocate before God if you know Him as your Savior, desires that you will be with Him forever. Put your trust in the Lord as your own personal Savior and you will spend all eternity with Him--beginning right now!
